Heart and Hjem combines a source of ideas and a web shop of home and garden wares, chosen or made by us for their particular uses and longevity. Originally called Retro Heart and Home for well over a decade, and the now mainstream fashion for vintage and retro, we now no longer really feel ‘retro’. In fact, we are very now!
It all began with an urge to find an alternative to the usual children’s party gifts, which coincided with a need to find a use for off cuts of materials in the family joinery workshop. Kristin cut out some heart shapes, hand-painted them in blackboard paint, added a twine loop and a gingham bow, and wrote the birthday child’s name in chalk pen to create a door sign. Word was out, and we were in production. Featured in Country Living Magazine, the telephone orders followed with more hand crafted products from our workshop.
We continue to craft a range of products ourselves, and have sourced a selection of items we love.
